The Person
Hey, I'm Sebastian Sela! Born in Sweden in 1996, I grew up surrounded by 90's adjacent culture, which of course influenced my interests and the way I see things in life.
For a quick introduction, here are a few ways I'd describe myself:
- Computer Science Engineer
- Game Developer
- Website Developer
- Application Developer
- Video Editor
- Image Editor
As a humble, helpful, and easy-going person, I enjoy the simpler things in life. Enjoying nature, eating a good burger, maxin' relaxin' all cool. As a fan of media in general, I often think about and analyze various topics related to what I interact with, resulting in the occasional rants in the form of either Twitter-threads or longer blog posts. I also enjoy creative endeavours, and I'm always working on something in the various mediums available to me.
I consider myself to be a jack-of-all-trades in the world of digital creation. Ever so interested in cartoons and drawings, I've always been an artist to some extent, and the want to improve my skills in the area has persisted through the years. In the age of YouTube, I started editing videos and have continued to hone those skills since. As a fan of games, the thought of being able to create them myself turned me towards game development. This introduced me to programming as a whole, which in turn led to me developing websites and applications as well.

-
How old are you?
I was born in 1996, on the 20th of October. I share my birthday with Snoop Dogg!
-
Which languages do you speak?
I speak Swedish and English fluently. Swedish is my native tounge, but basically everything I watch or read is in English, so it sometimes makes me wonder which language I know better!
I studied Spanish for a few years around 7th grade, but I haven't retained much of it. I can also recognize a few Japanese and Cyrillic letters. Sometimes I even recognize words used in a lot of different languages, like German, French, Portugese, all of them basically... does that count for anything?
-
What programming languages and software do you use?
C# is the language I know best. I've been using it while programming in Unity for over 10 years, and for web development with ASP.NET for over 3. For web development I also use JavaScript and jQuery alongside HTML and Razor, and also CSS and SaSS. I have some experience with React, Vue, and Visual Basic as well. At university we were taught plain Java, MatLab, and also how to write SQL, and at high school I developed some games using XNA and Adobe Flash.
Summary:

I have developed full or partial websites, software for PC, Android, and HoloLens, and have worked on games for PC and browsers. For a more detailed look on some projects, check out my Portfolio.

What's your philosophy when developing software?
Functionality over presentation, or user experience above everything. I'd rather prioritize instant display of information or janky animations over the coolest animations or transitions you've ever seen that take forever and block all user input. This is why I play my games using Performance mode instead of Quality mode when available, and I always disable screen animations on my PC and phone.
-
What music do you listen to?
I listen to basically everything as long as it's got a good sound to my ear. Hip hop is filled with great beats, which is a huge part of why it's my favorite genre. Soul, rock, drum'n'bass, and reggae all rank highly as well. Doesn't stop Jerry Reed's song Amos Moses from being one of my all-time favorite songs!
-
What games do you play?
My favorite genres are platformers and open-world games, so I tend to play those games the most. My least played genres would be strategy games and turn-based RPG's, but as long as it's interesting I can play anything!

Are you an animal person?
Yes! Or, it depends, I guess.
I love the concept of an animal. I love watching hedgehogs in my backyard, or seeing videos of seals doing funny things. I enjoy watching birds run around, or seeing bugs go about their day. I'm not much for touching them, however. Partly because I don't want to get dirty, partly because I don't want to hurt them or vice versa. I grew up surrounded by lizards I wanted no part in taking care of with no fluffy animals in sight, so it could just be me not being used to them. But don't get me wrong, I do like animals!
