Blog Updates

Hello! It’s the end of November, and I have some new things to share regarding Nonogos. First off, I’ve launched a dedicated page for the game on my site! Check out its page here! Here you can read some information, view screenshots, find related blogposts (like the one you’re reading), or view the latest trailer. Speaking of, I’ve produced a new trailer for y’all. Check it out below!

Have you watched the trailer? Then you might’ve noticed the logo’s for Steam and itch.io. Yes, I’ve launched the store pages for Nonogos, and it’ll be the first game I release on Steam! I haven’t decided on a release date yet, so you can wishlist it on Steam or add it to your collection on itch.io to be notified when it happens!

Aside from featuring the trailer on the store pages, I also made it to have it featured on Mega64’s Black Friday stream, held on November 29th! I must’ve sent it in a bit too late as they showed the update #4 video about 4 hours 6 minutes into the stream, so I’m a bit disappointed I wasn’t able to have it shown in the best light possible. I understand it must’ve been a busy time preparing for the stream so some things fall through the cracks. Nevertheless, thanks to the Mega64 crew for showing off the game!

I did see some messages reacting to the update video during the stream, so here are my responses to the feedback I saw.

  • Isn’t this just Picross? - Nonogos is a nonogram solving game just like Picross, so they’re similar yes. Just like there are multiple sudoku games or multiple jigsaw games, there can be multiple nonogram games. I think Picross is just the way most people outside of Japan, or at least those playing games, know of nonograms. It was certainly my introduction!
  • What makes this unique? - I’ve mostly just thought of Nonogos as my own nonogram game, so I haven’t really thought of ways to differentiate it from other games. In that sense, there really aren’t any unique features at this point aside from the varied dimensions of the puzzles instead of sticking to increments of 5x5 grids. I’ll take this feedback into account and see if I can make something out of it. If nothing else, it’s an expansion to the world of nonogram at large.

That’s it for now. The next update will probably come sometime early next year when I've finalized more things. Until then!
